Yes. The basics are free: rooms, sync, chat, playlist voting, friends, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music. Free rooms hold up to 5 people. There's an optional Plus plan if you want bigger rooms or longer voice chat, but you don't need it.

Plus mainly buys you bigger rooms and unlimited voice chat. The room cap goes from 5 to 50, the 1-hour daily voice limit goes away, and your rooms and playlists are kept forever instead of expiring after 30 days idle. You also get bigger file uploads, custom room branding, room passwords, and chat GIFs. One Plus member is enough: the bigger cap applies to everyone in that room.

No account required to start watching. You can create and join rooms as a guest. Creating an account lets you save your rooms and access them later.

When someone plays, pauses, or seeks the video, everyone in the room follows along automatically. The host decides who is allowed to control playback. For YouTube, Twitch, and Kick this all happens in the browser with nothing to install; DRM-protected services like Netflix use the free extension.

Yes! SyncUp has built-in subtitle support. Subtitles are auto-extracted when available, and anyone in the room can upload their own SRT, VTT, or ASS/SSA files to share with the group. Each viewer can customize subtitle size, font, and style to their liking — your preferences are saved across sessions.

Voice chat is built in, so you can talk in the same tab as the video. Free rooms get an hour of voice a day and Plus removes that limit. If your group already lives in a Discord or WhatsApp call, that works fine alongside SyncUp too.
