SyncUp is a free platform that lets you watch videos in sync with friends. It works with YouTube, Twitch, Kick, SoundCloud, YouTube Music, and thousands of other video sites. Create a room, share the code, and everyone sees the same thing at the same time.
Is it really free?
Yes. The basics are free: rooms, sync, chat, playlist voting, friends, YouTube, Twitch, Kick, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music. Free rooms hold up to 5 people. There's an optional Plus plan if you want bigger rooms or longer voice chat, but you don't need it.
What does SyncUp Plus add?
Plus mainly buys you bigger rooms and unlimited voice chat. The room cap goes from 5 to 50, the 1-hour daily voice limit goes away, and your rooms and playlists are kept forever instead of expiring after 30 days idle. You also get bigger file uploads, custom room branding, room passwords, and chat GIFs. One Plus member is enough: the bigger cap applies to everyone in that room.
Do I need an account?
No account required to start watching. You can create and join rooms as a guest. Creating an account lets you save your rooms and access them later.
How does the sync work?
When someone plays, pauses, or seeks the video, everyone in the room follows along automatically. The host decides who is allowed to control playback. For YouTube, Twitch, and Kick this all happens in the browser with nothing to install; DRM-protected services like Netflix use the free extension.
What platforms are supported?
Most video sites work straight from the browser, including YouTube, Twitch, Kick, SoundCloud, YouTube Music, and 1000+ others. Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Prime Video need the free SyncUp browser extension, because their players are DRM-protected.
Can we listen to music together?
Paste a SoundCloud track or playlist link, or a YouTube Music track link, and the room switches to a music player with cover art, a scrubber, and the up-next list. Everyone hears the same second of the same song, and it's free for every room. The one catch is on SoundCloud's side: Go+ tracks only play a 30-second preview.
Does SyncUp support subtitles?
Yes! SyncUp has built-in subtitle support. Subtitles are auto-extracted when available, and anyone in the room can upload their own SRT, VTT, or ASS/SSA files to share with the group. Each viewer can customize subtitle size, font, and style to their liking — your preferences are saved across sessions.
How do I talk to friends while watching?
Voice chat is built in, so you can talk in the same tab as the video. Free rooms get an hour of voice a day and Plus removes that limit. If your group already lives in a Discord or WhatsApp call, that works fine alongside SyncUp too.
