About SyncUp
Hi, I'm the developer behind SyncUp
SyncUp started from a simple idea: watching videos with friends shouldn't be complicated. Whether you're across the room or across the world, everyone deserves to share those moments together. Laughing at the same jokes, reacting to the same plot twists, experiencing content as if you were side by side.
Why I Built This
I wanted a way to watch videos with friends that just worked. No complicated setup, no account requirements, no subscription fees for basic features. Just create a room, share the link, and start watching together. That's the experience I set out to build.
SyncUp supports YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and over 1000 other websites with HTML5 video players. Movie trailers, music videos, live streams, gaming content... if it plays in a browser, you can probably watch it together. The synchronization happens in real-time, so everyone sees the same frame at the same time.
Want to watch Netflix, Disney+, or other streaming services together? Install our free browser extension to unlock synchronized playback on these platforms too. It takes less than a minute to set up.
You can even share local video files directly with your friends using peer-to-peer streaming. No uploads required. Your files stay on your device while everyone watches in sync.
Our Mission
To bring people together through shared video experiences. In a world where we're often physically apart from the people we care about, watching something together creates a sense of connection that's hard to replicate. SyncUp makes that possible, anywhere, anytime.
What Makes SyncUp Different
- No account required. Start watching immediately. Create a room in seconds.
- Perfect synchronization. Our real-time sync technology ensures everyone sees the same content at the exact same moment.
- 1000+ supported websites. Watch content from YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and any website with an HTML5 video player.
- Streaming service support. Watch Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming services together using our free browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
- Local file sharing. Stream your own video files directly to friends via peer-to-peer. No uploads needed.
- Privacy focused. We collect minimal data and are committed to protecting your privacy.
- Free to use. Core features are completely free, because watching together shouldn't cost anything.
Intentional Design Choices
SyncUp follows the Unix philosophy: do one thing and do it exceptionally well. Every feature decision is intentional.
Built-in chat, bring your own voice calls
SyncUp includes built-in text chat so you can react and comment while watching together. For voice and video calls, pair SyncUp with your favorite communication app — Discord, FaceTime, Zoom, or WhatsApp. These apps have spent years perfecting voice/video, so you get the best of both worlds.
Why browser-based instead of a native app?
SyncUp works in any modern browser by design. This means instant access without downloads, automatic updates without app store delays, and universal compatibility across Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS. Share a link and friends join immediately - no app store downloads required. For an app-like experience, add SyncUp to your home screen as a Progressive Web App.
How does SyncUp handle platform changes?
With support for 1000+ websites, you're never dependent on a single platform. We maintain deep integrations with YouTube, Twitch, and Kick, plus support any HTML5 video player. You can also stream local files directly via peer-to-peer. If any platform changes, our team updates the integration, and because SyncUp is browser-based, you get fixes instantly.
Looking Forward
SyncUp is continuously improving. I'm always working on new features, better performance, and supporting more platforms. If you have suggestions or feedback, I'd love to hear from you through our contact page or join our Discord community to stay updated, share ideas, or just hang out.
Thank you for being part of the SyncUp community. Here's to many more shared moments together.
