Free for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
How SyncUp Works with Hulu
SyncUp natively supports YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and thousands of HTML5 video sites - no extension needed. For streaming services like Hulu, our free browser extension enables synchronized playback. Each person needs their own Hulu subscription.
Hulu still has its own Watch Party (with real limits)
Worth being upfront about this one: Hulu kept its native Watch Party feature where most services dropped theirs (Amazon Prime in April 2024, Disney+ in September 2023). It does work. But it comes with a stack of requirements. Last verified: May 2026, it is limited to:
- Ad-free ("No Ads") subscribers only, not the ad-supported plan
- Accounts marked 18+
- A desktop web browser (no mobile app support)
- Up to 8 people per party
- The United States only
If you and everyone you are watching with have ad-free Hulu in the US and there are eight or fewer of you, the built-in feature is genuinely fine. There is no reason to add a tool you do not need.
Where SyncUp helps instead
SyncUp is useful for the cases Hulu's feature leaves out: friends on the cheaper ad-supported plan, groups larger than eight (free rooms hold 5, and Plus lifts that), or sessions where you want to mix in a YouTube clip or another service in the same room. It works through the free browser extension, syncs play, pause, and seek within about 200ms, and never shares accounts or streams. Everyone still signs in with their own Hulu subscription.

Hulu Watch Party FAQ
Install the free SyncUp browser extension, create a watch party room, and share the room code. Everyone with the extension installed stays in sync within about 200ms. Each viewer needs their own Hulu subscription.
Yes. SyncUp and the browser extension are free. Free rooms hold up to 5 people; the optional Plus plan ($3.99/month) lifts the cap to 50 for everyone in the room. You'll still need your own Hulu subscription for the content.
Yes. Hulu uses DRM-protected playback, so the SyncUp extension is required to sync video events. It is free and installs in under a minute on Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
Hulu watch parties require a desktop browser because mobile browsers don't support extensions. SyncUp does work on mobile for YouTube, Twitch, and Kick without any extension.
SyncUp doesn't share Hulu accounts or streams. Each viewer signs in with their own Hulu account, so you're not violating any sharing policy. SyncUp only syncs playback events between viewers.
On-demand Hulu titles sync reliably through the extension. Hulu Live TV is also DRM-protected and works the same way, though live content already plays in real time, so there's less to keep aligned beyond pauses.
